Peter Bekker, President of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, shares his thoughts on the IUCN Congress and the role of business in conservation and ensuring a sustainable future

The Member's Assembly, the highest decision-making body of IUCN, is a unique global environmental parliament of governments and NGOs. It adopts resolutions and recommendations on important conservation issues, as well as IUCN's programme of work for the next four years; elects new IUCN President and Council. Members can also put forward motions (draft decisions) on issues ranging from strengthening the motions process, increasing youth engagement, saving the world's most threatened species, and IUCN's name.

IUCN's World Conservation Congress is an international event, unique in its size, spirit, diversity and relevance to the urgent need to protect nature so that nature can protect us and our children. As the fourth day rolled on, new initiatives and results were announced, and new voices were given a right to be heard.

Mattias Klum, IUCN Goodwill Ambassador talks about the need to communicate the sense of urgency when we talk about biodiversity loss and nature degradation. He talks about the future and the nature that his children should be able to explore, protect and live in harmony with.
